Je photographie un panneau qui n'a plus de sens quand un gosse passe devant mon objectif en gloussant.
Il rejoint d'autres enfants qui descendent dans la décharge.
Tous sont des collecteurs; équipés d'un sac et d'une tige de métal.
En discutant avec l'un des types qui s'est auto-proclamé "gardien de la décharge" j'apprends que la plupart des mômes sont orphelins.
Pas de lien de parenté avec ces vieilles femmes que j'ai également aperçu pliées sur les ordures.
Veuves pour la plupart, elle ont été contraintes de venir travailler ici; collectant ce qui peut être revendu.
Parfois, au milieu des innombrables détritus on peut trouver de petites touffes d'herbe jauniee. C'est pourquoi certain berger emmène brouter leur bétail dans la décharge.
Bétail dont la viande sera revendue par la suite au marché de Doumanzana.
Un grand nombre d'objets se ramasse : bouteilles vides, fragments de plastiques ou de métal, sacs poubelles ou sacs contenant des déchets chimiques ou hospitaliers comme des placentas ou des membres amputés.
Les morceaux de métal se revendent bien.
Au milieu de la décharge, une femme qui porte son enfant dans le dos les assemble utilisant une pierre comme outil.
Parfois il arrive qu'elle se blesse avec les fragments de métaux rouillés.
Une nuit, les gardiens se sont disputer le corps d'Assan, une orpheline qui habite la décharge dans une cabane qu'elle a entourée d'une guirlande.

He's catching up with the other children who are going down to the dump.
All of them are rubbish dump collectors, each equipped with a plastic bag and a metal rod.
Some of them are barefoot,
others wear plastic sandals.
There are hundreds of them bustling on the stinky mass of garbage.
While talking with one of these self-proclaimed "guards of the dump" learn that most of the kids here are orphans.
Not related to the old women that I've seen, bending over the rubbish.
In most cases, these women are widows: they have to come work here, collecting what can, in turn, be sold.
I'm walking with difficulty over the waste covered by a thousand flies and manage several times to sink my feet in what looks like human excrement; the astonished screams that escape from my mouth on these occasions make some of the kids burst out with laughter.
Sometimes, in the midst of incalculable tons of detritus we find some yellowed tufts of grass. For this reason, some shepherds bring their cattle to graze inside the rubbish dump.
Later on, they will sell meat from these animals in the Doumanzana's market.
« - Be careful sir, don't walk here ! » says a young shepherd.
A heap of needles and syringes are gleaming.
Some of the syringes still contain blood.
My throat aches when I think about all those children who sometimes walk barefoot over this landfill.
A large number of things could be collected: empty bottles, plastic or iron fragments, plastic bags or bags that contain chemical or hospital wastes like placentas or amputated limbs.
The iron pieces would sell easily.
In the middle of the dump, a women carrying a baby in her back assembles them using a stone as a tool.
Occasionally, she hurts herself with the rusty fragments of iron.
One night, the dump guards fight among themselves for Assan's body, an orphan who's living in a hut, inside the rubbish dump, that she had surrounded with Christmas decorations.
